LinguaThree small groups, and then you are done
The -е you learned covers the great majority of nouns. Three groups do something else, and all three are small enough to learn as lists rather than as rules you must apply under pressure.
Nouns in -ия, -ие, -ий take -ии
If the dictionary form already ends in -ия, -ие or -ий, the place form ends in -ии. Country names are the group you will meet first, because you have been using one since the second unit.

A few masculine nouns take a stressed -у
A short list of very concrete nouns has a special place form ending in stressed -у after в or на. It appears only in this meaning: о лесе is about a forest, but в лесу is inside one.

Feminine nouns in -ь keep the -и
Nouns like площадь and дверь end in a soft sign and take -и, not -е. There are not many of them at this level, and they are all feminine.
Мы живём в России.We live in Russia.
Дети играют в саду.The children are playing in the garden.
