LinguaOne ending, two jobs, three exceptions
This unit gave you the first Russian case. It answers two questions and nothing else: Где? for the place something is, and О чём? О ком? for the topic of speech and thought. Both use the same endings.

The two decisions you make every time
First, в or на – memorised with the noun, not derived. Second, -е or one of the three exceptions – read off the dictionary form. Neither decision depends on the verb, and neither changes when the sentence gets longer.
Он на работе, а дети в школе.He is at work and the children are at school.
Мы говорим о вас.We are talking about you.
