About LinguaPair

LinguaPair started with one couple and two languages that did not overlap.

Why it exists

When two people who love each other speak different languages, most conversations go through a third language – or through a phone held between them. LinguaPair was built for those two people: to translate the conversation they are having now, and to turn its words into the lessons that mean they will need the translator less next year.

It grew into a full language app: authored courses from A0 to C2 in six languages, a spaced-repetition vocabulary trainer, films with your own subtitles, reading with audio, partner games and a placement test. Everything still assumes there are two of you – and everything also works alone.

What it is, in one paragraph

A language-learning app for two people – couples first, but any pair – on iPhone, Android and the web. Six languages: English, Russian, Spanish, Vietnamese, Japanese and Korean, each both a language to learn and a language of the app, in any pairing. Free to start; one Premium subscription covers both partners.

How the content is made

Every course – around fifty units and more than three hundred lessons per language – is written and reviewed by hand against one common curriculum, then checked by validators for consistency between the six languages. Nothing a learner reads in a lesson is generated on the fly.

Illustrations and voice-overs are produced with generative tools and reviewed. The live translator uses on-device speech and translation where the phone has them, and cloud models otherwise; what it translates stays between the two of you and feeds only your own vocabulary.

What we hold to

One subscription for two

A pair pays once. The partner who did not pay has exactly the same product, on every device.

Free means useful

The free tier is a real course – the whole of A0 and A1 in every language – plus the translator every day. It is not a countdown.

Your data is yours

You can delete everything you made – the account, the pair, the words, the conversations – from the app or the site, at any time, and nothing is sold or shared.
