You now hold the whole alphabet: ten basic vowels, two more simple ones (ㅐ ㅔ), nine compound ones, nine plain consonants, five aspirated (ㅋ ㅌ ㅍ ㅊ ㅎ counts as one by tradition) and five tense (ㄲ ㄸ ㅃ ㅆ ㅉ). Every block is read left to right and top to bottom, exactly as it is written. Nothing in this checkpoint is new; the only skill being tested is speed, and speed comes from reading each block as a whole rather than letter by letter.
Where readers slow down
Three places take the most time. The pair ㅓ / ㅗ: remember that ㅓ opens to the right and ㅗ points up. The pair ㅐ / ㅔ: identical in sound, so spelling is memory, not hearing. And the three strengths 가 / 카 / 까: if you cannot yet hear them apart, at least read them apart – the extra stroke is air, the doubled letter is tightness.
