Places and the particle 에

Where people are

The same pattern places people: 아버지는 회사에 있어요 my father is at the office, 친구는 도서관에 있어요 my friend is at the library, 저는 지금 집에 있어요 I am at home now. The places of daily life are the vocabulary of this lesson – 집, 회사, 학교, 도서관, 카페, 공원, 마트, 서점, 영화관, 은행 – and every one of them takes 에 unchanged. To ask who is somewhere, use 누가, the subject form of 누구: 집에 누가 있어요? who is at home?

Also and only: 도 with 있어요

The particle 도 you met with the copula works with 있어요 too, replacing 이/가: 마트에 우유도 있어요 the supermarket has milk too, 저도 시간이 있어요 I have time too. Put 도 on whichever noun is the also: 공원에도 있어요 stacks it after 에 to mean in the park as well. With 없어요 it turns into not either: 돈도 없어요 I have no money either.
