Reading, listening and 10 questions

A visit to our new home

Read the passage, then listen to it. Answer ten questions about what you read or heard. You can return to the passage while answering.

“Welcome to our new home, Mia! It isn't a flat. It's a small house.” “Is there a bathroom upstairs?” “Yes. There is a shower and a mirror in it. The kitchen and the living room are downstairs.”

Mia looks around the kitchen. There is a cooker next to the fridge. There is a washing machine under the window. “Are there any chairs in the kitchen?” Mia asks. “Yes, there are two.” A small table is between them. Mia puts her bag on one chair.

“This is my bedroom,” says Leo. “I've got a bed, a wardrobe and a lamp. The lamp is next to the bed. This room is small, but it's nice.” “Where are your books?” “They're in the wardrobe. There aren't any books on the bed.” “Where is your cat?” “Look behind the door!”

Back downstairs, Mia sits on the sofa in front of the TV. Leo has got his English book. He reads: “A place phrase tells us where something is. For example: under the table.” Mia smiles. “Your cat is under the table now!”

“Is there a pharmacy near here?” Mia asks. “Yes, it's opposite our house. There's a bakery next to it. The bus stop is in front of the bakery.” “And a playground?” “Yes, there's one behind the corner shop. The park is far from here, but the playground is near. There's a supermarket on our street too.”

Mia's bag is still in the kitchen. Her phone is in the bag. It rings: time to go home!
