This, that, these, those
We use demonstratives to point to people or things. They show if something is near or far, and if it is one thing or more than one thing.

This and these are for things near you. That and those are for things farther away. Use this/that with one thing, and these/those with plural nouns.
This is a blue pen.
Those are red books.

For one thing, ask What's this? or What's that? For more than one thing, ask What are these? or What are those? In short answers, we often say It's... and They're...
