Reading, listening and 10 questions

A rainy day, a new plan

Read the passage, then listen to it. Answer ten questions about what you read or heard. You can return to the passage while answering.

It is Saturday. Ben and Rosa are sitting near the window. Ben is reading a book about a trip to the mountains. There is snow in the photos. Outside their house, it is raining. A man is running to the bus stop with an umbrella. He is wearing a coat.

“Can I open the window?” Rosa asks. “No, please. It's cold and windy.” “I usually ride a bike in the park on Saturdays, but look at the rain!” “You can draw the park instead,” says Ben. “I can read, and you can draw.”

Rosa looks at the weather report. It is going to be warm and sunny tomorrow. “Let's visit the park tomorrow. We can play tennis there.” “Yes! Can you play football too?” “Yes, but I can't swim. And the water is cold now.”

Their father is cooking pasta. “Can you cook?” Rosa asks Ben. “I can make a sandwich. Can I use these tomatoes, Dad?” “Yes. But we're going to have pasta for lunch.”

The family has a plan for tonight: a party at home. Mum has a red dress for it. Ben can sing and Rosa can dance. They aren't going to travel this weekend. Dad can't drive because his car isn't ready. He has a meeting in town next week, but today he is at home.

“Is it hot outside now?” Dad asks. “No. It's cloudy, and it's still raining.” “Then our party is going to be in the living room.”

Ben closes his book. “I'm going to study after lunch. Then we can get ready for the party!”
