Checkpoint: Regular Verbs and Negation

Three groups, one system

Person-ar-er-ir
eufalocomoabro
tufalascomesabres
ele, ela, o senhorfalacomeabre
nósfalamoscomemosabrimos
eles, elas, vocêsfalamcomemabrem

The eu form always ends in -o. -ar verbs keep a in the endings, -er and -ir verbs keep e – only nós of -ir has -imos. vocês (several friends) takes the same form as eles: Vocês comem aqui?

Saying no and asking

não before the verb; nunca also before the verb, without não. Questions keep the word order (Comes carne?) and are answered with the verb (Como. / Não como.). “Why” is porque at the start, porquê at the end; Portugal’s “to understand” is perceber.

– Comes carne? – Não como. Só como peixe.– Do you eat meat? – No. I only eat fish.
