Checkpoint: Who You Are

Three sentences that carry an introduction

This unit gave you a complete first conversation. A statement: 저는 안나예요, 회사원이에요. A question: 어느 나라 사람이에요? 직업이 뭐예요? A correction: 아니요, 학생이 아니에요. 회사원이에요. Every piece obeys the same two rules – the last sound of the noun chooses 이에요/예요 and 은/는 and 이/가, and the noun comes first, the verb last.

Three particles, one rule

은/는 marks what you are talking about. 이/가 marks the thing that is being denied before 아니에요 (and, from the next units on, the subject of most sentences). 도 means also and takes the place of either. In every case the consonant form comes after a batchim and the vowel form after an open syllable: 선생님은, 친구는; 학생이, 의사가.
