Checkpoint: Daily Life

Present Simple for routines and facts

We use the present simple with I, you, we, they to talk about habits, routines, and facts. The base verb stays the same: I work, we study, they live. Use it for things that happen often or are generally true.

I work every day.

SubjectVerbExample
IworkI work at home.
youstudyYou study English.
weliveWe live in a city.
theystartThey start at nine.

Time phrases in daily life

Time phrases help you say when something happens. Common phrases are every day, in the morning, at night, and on Mondays. They often go at the end of the sentence.

We study in the morning.

Negatives with don't

To make the present simple negative with I, you, we, they, use don't + base verb. Do not change the main verb: I don't work, they don't study. This means the action is not part of the routine or is not true.

They don't work at night.

AffirmativeNegative

You live hereYou don't live here

Yes/no questions with do

To ask a yes/no question, use Do + subject + base verb...? For short answers, say Yes, I do / No, I don't and the same pattern with you, we, they. The main verb stays in the base form.

Do you work on Mondays?
