Reading, listening and 10 questions

A family birthday

Read the passage, then listen to it. Answer ten questions about what you read or heard. You can return to the passage while answering.

“Happy birthday, Nora!” “Thank you!”

Nora's mother has got a big bag. Her father has got a cake. Her parents are kind. Nora has got a brother, Tom, and a sister, Lucy. Tom is tall. Lucy is short. Nora has got long hair and brown eyes. Lucy has got blond hair.

“Is that your uncle?” a friend asks. “Yes. Uncle Ben is the tall young man. He's funny! And that's my aunt, Eva. She's quiet. Their cousin? No – their daughter is my cousin, Erin. Erin is very friendly.”

On the wall: a family tree. At the top: Nora's grandparents. Grandpa is old, but his jokes are new. Grandma has got a phone with photos of all the children.

“How old is Nora?” Erin asks. “She's twelve today.” “And when is your birthday, Erin?” “In May. Have you got a pet, Nora?” “Yes. We have got a dog and a cat. Tom has got a hamster. Lucy has got a fish.” “Have you got a bird?” “No, we haven't. Have you got a rabbit?” “Yes, I have. I've got a rabbit, but I haven't got a dog.”

Nora looks at the big bag. “A bike?” “No!” her mother laughs. “A helmet. You have got a bike already!”

Now the whole family is here. The birthday party is in the garden. Grandma has got her camera ready. “One photo of the grandparents, parents and children together!”
