LinguaThe people in the family
Most family words have a masculine form in -o and a feminine one in -a: o filho, a filha; o tio, a tia; o primo, a prima. A few are different: o pai, a mãe; o avô, a avó.

Tenho, tens, tem
To talk about your family, use ter (to have): Tenho dois irmãos (I have two brothers), Tens irmãos? (do you have brothers or sisters? – to a friend), A Ana tem um filho. You already know the words o meu pai and a minha mãe (my father, my mother) – you will learn them properly in the next lesson.
Tenho um irmão e uma irmã. Tu tens irmãos?I have a brother and a sister. Do you have brothers or sisters?
