To say where something is, use the words of place you know, with the noun after them in -i: الْمِفْتَاحُ عَلَى الطَّاوِلَةِ – the key is on the table; الْحَقِيبَةُ تَحْتَ السَّرِيرِ – the bag is under the bed.
أَيْنَ مِفْتَاحِي؟ – فِي الْخِزَانَةِ، بِجَانِبِ الْمِرْآةِ.Where is my key? – In the cupboard, next to the mirror.
Instead of repeating the noun, add a pronoun ending to the little word: فِيهِ – in it (a masculine thing), عَلَيْهَا – on it (a feminine thing), تَحْتَهُ – under it. Notice عَلَى turns into عَلَيْـ before an ending.
هٰذِهِ طَاوِلَةٌ، وَعَلَيْهَا مِصْبَاحٌ. وَهٰذَا الرَّفُّ فِيهِ كُتُبٌ.This is a table, and there is a lamp on it. And this shelf has books on it.
