A walk through town
| Arabic | Meaning |
|---|---|
| قَرِيبٌ مِنَ الْمَحَطَّةِ | near the station |
| بَعِيدٌ عَنِ الْبَحْرِ | far from the sea |
| أَمَامَ الْبَنْكِ | in front of the bank |
| هُنَاكَ مَقْهًى | there is a café |
| لَا يُوجَدُ فُنْدُقٌ | there is no hotel |
Three things to remember. After a preposition or a word of place, the noun ends in -i. “There is” takes a noun without the article. And قَرِيب comes with مِنْ, while بَعِيد comes with عَنْ.
فِي وَسَطِ الْمَدِينَةِ مَيْدَانٌ كَبِيرٌ، وَبِجَانِبِهِ مُتْحَفٌ وَحَدِيقَةٌ.In the city centre there is a big square, and next to it a museum and a park.
To give directions, start with “go straight ahead”, then count the streets with الْأَوَّل and الثَّانِي and say the side: عَلَى الْيَمِينِ or عَلَى الْيَسَارِ. Landmarks help: the lights, the corner, the square.
الْكَنِيسَةُ بَعْدَ الْإِشَارَةِ، عَلَى الْيَسَارِ.The church is after the traffic lights, on the left.
