“I'm hungry,” says Ana. “I only have bread and cheese for breakfast. Let's have lunch here.”
Her brother Luis looks at the café menu.
“Can I have a chicken sandwich, please?” he asks.
“And I'd like a cup of tea and some cake,” says Ana.
“Would you like some juice too?” asks Luis.
“No, thanks. Tea is fine.”
Luis is thirsty. He orders a bottle of water. His sandwich is five pounds. The price of Ana's cake is three pounds. The tea is two pounds and the water is one pound.
“I love this cake,” Ana says. “But I hate coffee in cakes. This one has apples in it and no coffee.”
“I like apples too,” says Luis. “We need some fruit at home.”
Their shopping list is on the table. They need a loaf of bread, a bag of rice and some eggs.
“How many eggs?” asks Luis.
“Six. And we haven't got any vegetables.”
“How much rice do we need?”
“One small bag. We cook dinner at home every day. Rice with chicken tonight!”
Ana likes vegetables, but Luis doesn't like them very much. He likes fruit. Ana puts apples and tomatoes on the list.
“Would you like a snack for later?” Luis asks.
“Yes, please. An apple. And let's buy some tea. I make tea every evening.”
Luis calls the waiter. “Can I have the bill, please?”
“Eleven pounds, please.”
Luis looks at the list again. “Good. Now we're ready to shop!”
