The irregular verbs of this unit fall into small families. A g in io and loro: vengo, rimango, tengo. A double nn in loro: vanno, fanno, stanno, danno, sanno. Old stems with normal endings: dico, bevo. And very short forms: sto, do, so, va, fa.

Sapere is for facts and skills (so dove abita, so nuotare), conoscere for people and places (conosco Marco). How often: sempre, spesso, di solito, qualche volta, ogni giorno, and non … mai – never mai without non.
– Sai nuotare? – Sì, ma non nuoto spesso.– Can you swim? – Yes, but I don’t swim often.
