Hoy es sábado, tres de mayo. El cumpleaños de Rosa es mañana, el domingo. Rosa trabaja en un pequeño hotel.
– ¿Cuántos huéspedes hay? –pregunta.
– Veinte. Hay diez habitaciones dobles.
El número de teléfono del hotel está en la tarjeta. Termina en treinta y dos. Rosa lo lee en parejas de cifras.
El piso primero tiene la recepción. El segundo tiene un café. El tercero tiene una sala de estudio. En la biblioteca hay cien libros. El hotel abrió en mil novecientos noventa, según el cartel de la entrada.
– ¿Qué hora es?
– Es la una de la tarde.
– La visita empieza a las dos y cuarto. Tenemos tiempo.
Después, Rosa mira el reloj otra vez: son las dos y media. La visita ya está en el segundo piso.
Su compañero prepara una lista de precios para renovar el hotel. Una bicicleta cuesta quinientos euros y una mesa cuesta doscientos. En una tarjeta escribe “el euro”; en otra, “el peso”. Son dos monedas. “Un millón” es la cifra de un juego del folleto, no el precio de una habitación.
– ¿Cuánto cuesta un café?
– Dos euros con quince céntimos.
Rosa termina a las seis menos cuarto. No trabaja hasta la medianoche. El desayuno es a las ocho de la mañana y la cena a las nueve de la noche. El mediodía es la hora de entrada del nuevo grupo.
El lunes hay una reunión. El miércoles hay otra visita. Los sábados Rosa trabaja, pero mañana es su día libre. En el calendario, el mes de mayo tiene una estrella en el día cuatro. Enero es el primer mes del año; mayo, el quinto. La semana termina con una fiesta para Rosa.
– ¿Cuántos años tienes?
– Hoy, veintinueve. Mañana, treinta. ¡Cumplir años es mejor con amigos!
