There is / There are

ある場所に何があるかを言うときに、there is と there are を使います。1つのものには there is、2つ以上のものには there are を使います。このレッスンでは、家の中の部屋について説明できるようになります。

There is a kitchen in the house.家の中にキッチンがあります。

There are two bedrooms in the flat.そのアパートには寝室が2つあります。

使い方形例

there is の後ろでは、1つのものに a や an をよく使います。たとえば There is a bedroom. です。there are の後ろでは、数字や複数形の名詞をよく使います。たとえば There are four rooms. です。

否定形

何かが存在しないと言いたいときは、1つのものには there isn't、2つ以上のものには there aren't を使います。これらは日常英語でよく使う短い形です。

There isn't a bathroom upstairs.上の階にはバスルームがありません。

There aren't three bedrooms in this flat.このアパートには寝室が3つありません。

疑問文

1つのものについてたずねるときは Is there ...? を使います。2つ以上のものについてたずねるときは Are there ...? を使います。返事はよく Yes, there is/are または No, there isn't/aren't になります。

Is there a kitchen?キッチンはありますか？

Are there two bathrooms?バスルームは2つありますか？
