كَمِ السَّاعَةُ؟ – “what time is it?”. The answer uses السَّاعَةُ and an ordinal with الـ and ة: السَّاعَةُ الثَّالِثَةُ – literally “the third hour”, 3 o’clock. Only one o’clock is الْوَاحِدَةُ. Add صَبَاحًا (ṣabāḥan) for the morning and مَسَاءً (masāʾan) for the evening.
Half and quarter come after the hour with وَ: الثَّالِثَةُ وَالنِّصْفُ – half past three; الثَّالِثَةُ وَالرُّبْعُ – a quarter past three. “To” is إِلَّا (ʾillā, “except”): الرَّابِعَةُ إِلَّا رُبْعًا – a quarter to four; الرَّابِعَةُ إِلَّا ثُلْثًا – twenty to four (“four minus a third”).
كَمِ السَّاعَةُ؟ – السَّاعَةُ الْخَامِسَةُ وَالنِّصْفُ مَسَاءً.What time is it? – It is half past five in the evening.
