Numbers: one word, two small rules
Every number up to cento is one word, tens first. The tens drop their last vowel before uno and otto (sessantuno, quarantotto), and a final tre takes an accent (ottantatré).

The time: sono le, è l’una, alle
Che ore sono? – Sono le + hour, but è l’una, è mezzogiorno, è mezzanotte. Minutes come with e (e un quarto, e mezza) or, after the half hour, with meno from the next hour. For the time of an event: A che ora …? – alle otto, but all’una, a mezzogiorno, a mezzanotte. Timetables count to 24: le diciotto e trenta.

Days and dates
Days and months have small letters. Il sabato means every Saturday, sabato this Saturday. A date is il + number + month, with il primo for the 1st and l’ before a vowel: il primo maggio, il due giugno, l’otto marzo.
– Quando parti? – Il quindici agosto, alle undici e un quarto.– When are you leaving? – On the fifteenth of August, at quarter past eleven.
