LinguaOne o’clock is singular, the rest are plural: es la una, son las dos
The question is ¿Qué hora es? The answer uses ser with the feminine article, because behind every hour hides the word hora: es la una for one o’clock, and son las + number for every other hour: son las dos, son las siete, son las doce. Only one o’clock is singular; never say son la una or es las dos.

Minutes: y after the hour, menos before the next one
Up to half past, add y and the minutes: son las dos y diez. Fifteen minutes is y cuarto, thirty is y media. After half past, Spanish looks ahead to the next hour and subtracts with menos: 2:45 is son las tres menos cuarto, 2:50 is son las tres menos diez. En punto means exactly: son las tres en punto.

Which part of the day: de la mañana, de la tarde, de la noche
Spoken Spanish counts to twelve twice, so you add the part of the day when it matters: son las siete de la mañana, son las cinco de la tarde, son las diez de la noche. Mañana runs until midday, tarde from lunch until dark (around eight), noche after that. Twelve has its own words: es mediodía and es medianoche.
When something happens: a la una, a las dos
¿Qué hora es? asks what time it is now; ¿A qué hora es...? asks when something happens. The answer swaps es/son for a la / a las: La clase es a las nueve. La fiesta es a la una. Timetables print the 24-hour clock (20:30), but in speech you still say las ocho y media de la tarde.
