You can now read Vietnamese letters, hear the six tones, and see how a syllable is put together. Everything after this unit assumes those three. Read the tables below out loud once before the exercises.

The six tones again

One syllable, three parts
âm đầu + vần + thanh: an initial, a rhyme and a tone. A syllable may close with only eight consonants – c, ch, t, p, m, n, ng, nh – and the first four are closed without letting the air out.
