1. There is / There are

ひとつのものには there is を使い、2つ以上のものには there are を使います。これらの形は、部屋・家・場所に何があるかを言うときに使います。

意味単数複数
肯定文There is a sofa.There are two chairs.
否定文There isn't a TV.There aren't any pictures.
疑問文Is there a table?Are there any books?

There is a lamp in the bedroom.寝室にランプがあります。

2. 家具と家の中のもの

bed, sofa, table, chair, lamp, fridge, cooker, shower, mirror のような家の中の言葉を使って、部屋を説明しましょう。部屋の中に何があるかは there is/are を使い、人や家が何を持っているかは have got を使って言えます。

We have got a big fridge in the kitchen.わたしたちのキッチンには大きな冷蔵庫があります。

3. 場所を表す前置詞

ものがどこにあるかを言うときは in, on, under, next to, behind, in front of, between を使います。位置についてたずねるときは Where is ... ? や Where are ... ? を使いましょう。

前置詞意味例
in～の中にThe clothes are in the wardrobe.
on～の上に接してThe book is on the table.
under～の下にThe shoes are under the bed.
next to～の横にThe lamp is next to the sofa.
behind～の後ろにThe bag is behind the door.
in front of～の前にThe chair is in front of the desk.
between2つのものの間にThe table is between the chairs.

The mirror is between the window and the door.鏡は窓とドアの間にあります。

4. まとめ

家のことを説明するときは、これらを組み合わせます。何があるかは there is/are、部屋やものの名前には家の中の語彙、場所を言うときは前置詞を使います。例: There are two chairs next to the table.
