Three ways to own
| Arabic | Meaning |
|---|---|
| بَابُ الْبَيْتِ | the door of the house (iḍāfa) |
| بَابُهُ | its door, his door (suffix) |
| عِنْدَهُ بَابٌ | he has a door (having) |
All three have something in common: the owner comes second and takes the role of “of”. In بَابُ الْبَيْتِ and بَابُهُ the first word has no الـ and no tanwin, and ة becomes ت before a suffix: غُرْفَتِي, سَيَّارَتُهُ.

عِنْدَ أُخْتِي سَيَّارَةٌ حَمْرَاءُ.My sister has a red car.
