Checkpoint: Greetings and Introductions

Three questions, two genders

Name, origin and how someone is: each question ends in -a for a man and -i for a woman. The vowel sits on the last letter, so look at the end of the word.

QuestionTo a manTo a woman
nameمَا اسْمُكَ؟مَا اسْمُكِ؟
howكَيْفَ حَالُكَ؟كَيْفَ حَالُكِ؟
and you?وَأَنْتَ؟وَأَنْتِ؟

The speaker’s own words follow the speaker: a man is مِصْرِيٌّ, آسِفٌ, مُتْعَبٌ; a woman adds ـَة: مِصْرِيَّةٌ, آسِفَةٌ, مُتْعَبَةٌ. Greetings themselves never change: السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ, مَرْحَبًا, صَبَاحُ الْخَيْرِ are the same for everyone.

السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ، أَنَا مُوسَى مِنْ مِصْرَ.Peace be upon you, I am Musa from Egypt.

وَعَلَيْكُمُ السَّلَامُ! أَنَا هُدَى، تَشَرَّفْنَا.And peace be upon you! I am Huda, pleased to meet you.
