Inviting a friend
Two ways to invite. هَلْ تُرِيدُ أَنْ…؟ – do you want to…? It works like أُحِبُّ أَنْ: after أَنْ the verb ends in -a. And مَا رَأْيُكَ فِي…؟ – how about…?, literally “what is your opinion of…?”, followed by a noun.
هَلْ تُرِيدُ أَنْ تَذْهَبَ إِلَى السِّينَمَا؟Do you want to go to the cinema?
مَا رَأْيُكَ فِي الْمَعْرِضِ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ؟How about the exhibition on Friday?
Yes or no, politely
| Phrase | Meaning |
|---|---|
| بِكُلِّ سُرُورٍ | with pleasure – yes |
| فِكْرَةٌ جَمِيلَةٌ | good idea – yes |
| آسِفٌ، أَنَا مَشْغُولٌ | sorry, I’m busy – no |
| لِلْأَسَفِ، عِنْدِي مَوْعِدٌ | unfortunately, I have an appointment – no |
Then you agree on a place and a time: نَلْتَقِي – we meet, let’s meet. نَلْتَقِي أَمَامَ السِّينَمَا فِي السَّاعَةِ السَّابِعَةِ – let’s meet in front of the cinema at seven. غَدًا – tomorrow.
هَلْ تُرِيدُ أَنْ تَذْهَبَ إِلَى الْحَفْلَةِ غَدًا؟ – لِلْأَسَفِ، أَنَا مَشْغُولٌ.Do you want to go to the party tomorrow? – Unfortunately, I’m busy.
