ir a / ir para: Vou ao banco. Vou para o Porto. Transport with de and no article – de autocarro, de metro, de comboio, de elétrico – but a pé. To catch a bus: apanhar o autocarro.

Polite: Desculpe, onde fica …? – Siga em frente, vire à direita, atravesse a passadeira. To a friend: segue, vira, atravessa. pelo / pela = through the: Passe pela praça.
Desculpe, há uma paragem de autocarro aqui perto? – Há, ao fundo da rua, em frente ao banco.Excuse me, is there a bus stop near here? – Yes, at the end of the street, opposite the bank.
