The gender of clothes has to be learned – it rarely matches your own language. der Rock (skirt) is masculine, das Kleid (dress) and das Hemd (shirt) are neuter, die Jacke is feminine. die Hose (trousers) is singular in German – one Hose is one pair, just like die Brille. der Pullover is often shortened to der Pulli, and die Schuhe (shoes) usually come in the plural. The article also gives you the pronoun: der → er, die → sie, das → es, plural → sie.

Farben: der Rock ist rot
After sein a colour has no ending, just like hell or groß: Der Rock ist rot. Die Schuhe sind schwarz. The basic colours are rot, blau, grün, gelb, schwarz, weiß, and also grau (grey) and braun (brown). hell- and dunkel- join the colour as one word: hellblau (light blue), dunkelgrün (dark green). To ask about colour: Welche Farbe hat die Jacke? – literally “which colour has the jacket?” – and the answer uses the pronoun: Sie ist grün.

Wie gefällt dir …? – Er gefällt mir.
To say you like a thing you see, German turns the sentence round: the thing is the subject of gefallen, and you are mir (to me). Der Rock gefällt mir – literally “the skirt pleases me”. The verb agrees with the thing: gefällt for one, gefallen for several: Die Schuhe gefallen mir. The question is Wie gefällt dir …? (how do you like …?), and the answer takes the pronoun: Er gefällt mir gut. Sie gefällt mir nicht. Keep the two apart: gern is for doing (ich tanze gern), gefallen for things you see.
