From here to there: から, まで, と

Two ends of a route or a time

から marks where something starts and まで where it ends, and the pair works for places and for times without any change: えきからがっこうまで, くじからごじまで. Each particle follows the word it belongs to, so the order is always “point, particle, point, particle” and never the other way round. Either half can stand alone: くうこうまでおねがいします in a taxi names only the destination.

と lists, it does not join sentences

と puts two or more nouns in a list – パンとぎゅうにゅう, ちちとはは – and it means an exhaustive “and”: naming two things with と says those are the two. It cannot join two sentences, which is a different job and a later lesson. Notice that the particle stands between the nouns and is not repeated at the end.

えきからこうえんまであるいてごふんですIt is five minutes on foot from the station to the park.

かどをひだりにまがってくださいPlease turn left at the corner.
