LinguaThe place gets a second word
ở only announces that a place is coming. To say where exactly, a position word goes between ở and the landmark: ở + position word + landmark. That slot is fixed – the position word never comes before ở, and never after the landmark.

Cái túi ở trên bàn.The bag is on the table.
bên means side, so bên cạnh is literally at the side of; plain cạnh says the same thing and is a little shorter. giữa on its own means in the middle of one thing, and with two landmarks joined by và it means between: ở giữa A và B.
Trường ở giữa chợ và công ty.The school is between the market and the company.
trong and ngoài are not only about walls
Vietnamese uses trong for anything with an edge around it – a room, a bag, a glass – and ngoài for what is beyond that edge. Some places are simply felt as open air and take ngoài even where you would say only at: ở ngoài chợ, ở ngoài sân.
Con chó ở ngoài sân.The dog is out in the yard.
