LinguaIch stehe um sieben auf: separable verbs
Many everyday verbs begin with a small prefix: auf|stehen (to get up), an|fangen (to begin), ein|kaufen (to shop), auf|räumen (to tidy up), fern|sehen (to watch TV). In the infinitive they are one word. In a sentence they split: the verb part takes its ending and stands in second place, and the prefix jumps to the very end: Ich stehe um sieben Uhr auf. Everything else sits between the two parts, like a pair of brackets. The stress is always on the prefix: AUFstehen, EINkaufen.

Fängt an, sieht fern: endings, questions and exceptions
The verb part changes exactly like the simple verb, vowel changes included: fangen → du fängst an, er fängt an; sehen → du siehst fern, sie sieht fern. In questions the prefix still goes to the end: Stehst du früh auf? Wann fängt der Film an? Two look-alikes do not split. frühstücken is one ordinary verb: Ich frühstücke um acht. schlafen gehen is two verbs: gehen changes and schlafen waits at the end: Ich gehe um elf schlafen. And mind the capital letter: der Morgen is “the morning”, morgen is “tomorrow”.

Vom Morgen bis zum Abend: describing your day
To tell your day in order, combine clock times with zuerst, dann and danach. Each of these words takes the first place, so the verb follows at once and the subject comes after it: Zuerst dusche ich, dann frühstücke ich. The separable verbs still close the sentence: Danach räume ich die Küche auf. A practical note: in Germany and Austria most shops are closed on Sundays, so many people einkaufen on Saturday.
Am Abend sehe ich fern, dann gehe ich schlafen.In the evening I watch TV, then I go to bed.
