Scusi, per andare …? The way, again
Stop a stranger with Scusi and ask Dov’è …?, C’è un … qui vicino? or Per andare al museo? (how do I get to the museum?). The answer comes with the polite form: vada dritto, giri a destra, giri a sinistra, attraversi la piazza, prenda la prima a sinistra. Where it is: vicino, lontano, davanti a, dietro, all’angolo.
– Scusi, per andare al museo? – Vada dritto e giri a sinistra.– Excuse me, how do I get to the museum? – Go straight on and turn left.
Al, in, a piedi: which preposition?
| Phrase | Why |
|---|---|
| al cinema | a + il |
| alla stazione | a + la |
| nel parco | in + il |
| dalla nonna | da + la: at a person’s place |
| in centro | a bare in, no article |
| a casa | a bare a, no article |
| in autobus | transport: a bare in |
A, in, di, da and su join the article into one word (al, nella, del, dal, sul). Some places keep a bare in or a (in centro, in piazza, a casa, a teatro), and so do cities (a Roma) and means of transport (in treno, in bici) – except a piedi. To say how long a trip takes: ci vuole un’ora, ci vogliono dieci minuti.
