Tom’s Saturday in Rome

Sabato mattina. Tom, un ragazzo inglese, è a Roma per la prima volta. Il suo albergo è vicino alla stazione, ma lui vuole andare in un piccolo museo nel centro storico.

All'uscita dell'albergo c'è un cartello: «Oggi sciopero degli autobus». Infatti l'autobus non passa. Tom chiede a una signora: – Scusi, per andare al museo d'arte moderna? Quanto tempo ci vuole a piedi? – Ci vogliono trenta minuti. Ma può prendere la metro: la fermata è qui, a destra. – Grazie! E dove compro il biglietto? – Dal tabaccaio, o alla macchinetta. Una corsa costa poco, ma se resta una settimana, l'abbonamento è meglio. E in metro non dimentichi di timbrare il biglietto!

Tom compra il biglietto dal tabaccaio, scende le scale e prende la metro. Dopo tre fermate scende, sale le scale ed è in centro, nella piazza di una grande chiesa. – Scusi, dov'è il museo d'arte moderna? – chiede a un ragazzo. – Vada dritto, poi giri a sinistra dopo la chiesa. Il museo è vicino al teatro. Non è lontano! Tom ringrazia, attraversa la piazza e prende la strada a sinistra.

In una strada ci sono i lavori, e sul cartello Tom legge: «Vietato l'accesso». Allora gira l'angolo e passa davanti a una farmacia e a un supermercato. Il supermercato ha l'orario continuato: è aperto dalle otto alle venti.

Ecco il museo. L'entrata del museo è in piazza, accanto al teatro. Il museo è aperto dalle nove alle diciannove. Sulla porta c'è scritto «Spingere», ma Tom prova a tirare la porta. Un signore ride: – Deve spingere, non tirare! Dentro il museo è vietato fumare e fare foto. L'uscita è a sinistra, vicino al bar.

Nel pomeriggio Tom va al parco con la bici del suo albergo. Il parco è grande e verde, e ci sono molte famiglie. Poi Tom scrive ai suoi genitori: «Roma è bellissima, ma l'Italia è piena di cartelli!»

La sera Tom vuole andare al cinema, ma il cinema vicino all'albergo è chiuso per ferie. Allora va a teatro: al teatro vicino al museo c'è uno spettacolo alle nove.

Domenica Tom prende il treno per Napoli. Il treno parte dalla stazione alle dieci, e ci vuole poco più di un'ora.
