You can now name the places of a Brazilian city, say that something exists with tem and where it is with ficar, go and come with ir and vir, name the transport (de ônibus, a pé), and ask for and give directions. Almost every sentence in this unit uses a preposition that melts with the article – the table below puts all four together.

Going, coming and finding the way
ir: vou, vai, vamos, vão. vir: venho, vem, vimos, vêm – vem for one person, vêm for several. Transport takes de with no article (de metrô, de táxi), walking is a pé, and home is casa without an article (Volto para casa). Directions use fixed command forms: Siga em frente, Vire à direita, Atravesse a rua, Passe pela praça, Pegue a primeira à esquerda.
A gente vem de ônibus e volta de metrô.We come by bus and go back by metro.
