LinguaCom licença, onde fica…?: asking the way
To stop someone in the street, start with Com licença (excuse me). Then ask Onde fica…? or, more gently, Você sabe onde fica…? Another common question is Como eu chego…? (how do I get to…?): Como eu chego à praça? – in speech also na praça. When you get the answer, say Obrigado or Obrigada; the reply is De nada.

Siga em frente, vire à direita: giving directions

Siga, vire, atravesse, pegue, passe are the polite command forms for você – learn them as fixed formulas. In relaxed Brazilian speech you will very often hear segue reto, vira à direita: that is normal too. Em frente means straight ahead, and em frente a or em frente de means opposite: em frente ao banco, em frente da farmácia. Do lado de melts with the article: do lado do banco, do lado da escola.
“Through” or “past” a place is por, and por melts with the article too: por + o = pelo, por + a = pela, pelos, pelas: Passe pela praça. – O ônibus vai pelo centro. Distances are counted in blocks, quarteirões: Ande dois quarteirões. The light at a crossing is o semáforo, and you cross on a faixa de pedestres.
Siga em frente, passe pela praça e vire na segunda rua.Go straight on, go past the square and turn into the second street.
A farmácia fica do lado do banco, em frente à padaria.The pharmacy is next to the bank, opposite the bakery.
