Sara ist dreißig und wohnt in Wien. Sie arbeitet in einem Café. Morgens um halb sieben ist sie schon da, vormittags und nachmittags bringt sie Kaffee und Kuchen, und abends ist sie oft müde. Nachts schläft sie wie ein Stein.
Heute ist Montag, der dritte März. Um zehn nach neun kommt eine Nachricht von ihrem Bruder Max. Max ist einundzwanzig und studiert in Graz.
„Hallo Sara! Wann hast du Geburtstag? Im April, oder? Und Oma hat am Sonntag Geburtstag, sie ist dann neunzig! Wir machen ein Fest bei ihr in Graz. Hast du am Wochenende Zeit?“
Sara lacht. Max vergisst immer ihren Geburtstag. In der Pause, um Viertel vor zwölf, schreibt sie:
„Mein Geburtstag ist am zwölften April, Max! Am Samstag kann ich leider nicht, ich arbeite. Aber der Sonntag passt mir gut. Um wie viel Uhr?“
Max antwortet sofort:
„Um halb drei, zum Kaffee. Oma sagt: Wer Zeit hat, kommt schon am Mittag zum Essen.“
„Vielleicht komme ich um eins. Der Zug nach Graz fährt um acht Uhr zwölf und braucht etwa zweieinhalb Stunden.“
Am Dienstag hat Sara frei. Ihr Termin beim Arzt ist um Viertel nach acht. Am Mittwoch schreibt Max noch einmal: „Alles klar? Sonntag um halb drei. Bis dann!“
Am Donnerstag geht Sara nachmittags in die Stadt. Sie sucht ein Geschenk für Oma. Im ersten Geschäft sieht sie eine schöne Uhr.
„Wie viel kostet die Uhr?“
„Tausend Euro.“
„Tausend? Das ist leider zu viel.“
Im zweiten Geschäft findet sie ein Buch über Wien und eine Karte. Das Buch kostet vierzehn Euro neunzig, die Karte zwei Euro fünfzig. Zusammen kosten sie siebzehn Euro und vierzig Cent. Sara zahlt mit zwanzig Euro. Auf der Karte steht eine große Zahl: neunzig. Sara schreibt darunter: „Bis hundert, Oma!“
Am Freitag ist Sara bei Freunden, und alle reden und lachen bis Mitternacht. Um null Uhr zehn fragt sie: „Wie spät ist es? Oh, schon so spät!“ Der letzte Bus kommt in zwölf Minuten. Um eins ist sie zu Hause. Am Samstag beginnt die Arbeit früh, um sieben.
Am Sonntag sitzt die Familie bei Oma am Tisch. Oma ist glücklich und erzählt: „Jeder Monat hat etwas Schönes. Im Januar liegt Schnee, im Frühling kommen die Blumen, im Sommer schwimme ich im See, im Herbst sind die Blätter bunt. Nur im Winter bin ich gern zu Hause.“ Dann liest sie die Karte und lacht: „Bis hundert? Gut, dann feiern wir in zehn Jahren wieder!“
