The garçom (waiter) asks O que você vai querer? or O que vocês vão pedir? The easiest answer is Pra mim, … (for me): Pra mim, o frango. – E pra ela, uma salada. Pra is the spoken form of para. You can also say Eu vou querer o peixe.
– O que vocês vão pedir? – Pra mim, o peixe. E pra ele, a carne.“What would you like to order?” “The fish for me. And the meat for him.”
Polite queria and poderia
Eu queria … is the polite “I’d like”: Eu queria uma água sem gás. poderia + infinitive is the polite “could you …?”: Você poderia trazer o cardápio? To call the waiter, just say Por favor! or raise your hand; in many places people also say Moço! (young man).
O senhor poderia trazer mais gelo, por favor?Could you bring some more ice, please?
Paying: cartão, dinheiro or pix
You pay no cartão (by card: em + o = no), em dinheiro (in cash, no article) or no pix – Brazil’s instant bank transfer, paid with a QR code or a key. With cash you get o troco (the change). Most restaurants add 10% service to the bill; it is optional, but almost everyone pays it.
